Water is typically gravity fed to these ponds from the tailings dam and the water returning typically carries a small percentage of solids. Over time the ponds become full of tailings, reducing the storage and surge capacity of the ponds. These ponds therefore need tailings removed periodically. However, as they are lined with HDPE to stop contamination and seepage, mechanical excavation of the tailings build up is not an option due to the risk of damaging the liner. Hydromining this product, to enable solids to be agitated and pumped back into the tailings dam, is an extremely cheap, low risk and safe option.
